How to Register for JAMB UTME: A Complete Step-by-Step Guide
Registering for JAMB UTME can feel confusing if it's your first time, especially with NIN linkage, e-PIN purchase and CBT centre steps all happening in a specific order. Here's the process broken down simply.
Before You Start: What You'll Need
- A valid, verified National Identification Number (NIN) — your NIN details must match your biodata exactly, since JAMB pulls your name, date of birth and other details from NIMC.
- An active email address and phone number you can access, for verification links and alerts.
- Your O'Level result(s) — WAEC, NECO or NABTEB — or an awaiting-result status if you haven't received results yet.
- A recent, clear passport photograph for your profile and biometric capture.
- For Direct Entry candidates: your OND, NCE, HND, IJMB, JUPEB or degree certificate/result, to be uploaded during registration.
Step-by-Step Registration Process
1. Generate your JAMB profile code
This is done by sending your 11-digit NIN via SMS to the official JAMB shortcode, or by starting the process directly on the JAMB e-Facility portal. You'll receive a unique profile code by SMS and email — this identifies you throughout the registration process, so keep it safe.
2. Purchase your JAMB e-PIN
The e-PIN is purchased from an accredited bank or approved vendor using your profile code. You'll be asked whether you want the UTME form only or the UTME form with mock exam practice — the mock option costs a little more but gives you a practice run before the real exam.
3. Complete registration at an accredited CBT centre
With your e-PIN and documents ready, visit any JAMB-accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre. This is where your biometric data (fingerprints) and passport photograph are captured, and where you complete your biodata and upload your O'Level and other documents.
4. Choose your subjects and institution
You'll select four UTME subjects (English Language is compulsory for all candidates) and your preferred institution and course. You can typically select up to three institution choices — choose carefully, since changes made afterward often attract a fee and have strict deadlines.
5. Print your registration slip
Once registration is complete, print your JAMB registration slip and keep it safe — you'll need it for your exam and often for post-UTME screening later.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Name mismatches — your name on JAMB must match your NIN and O'Level certificate exactly, including spelling and order.
- Buying e-PINs from unverified sources — only purchase through accredited banks or JAMB-approved vendors to avoid losing money to invalid PINs.
- Rushing subject or institution selection — these choices are harder (and often costlier) to change once submitted.
- Not printing the registration slip — always keep both a printed and digital copy.
Current Fees
JAMB adjusts its fees from time to time, so rather than quote a figure here that may be outdated by the time you read this, we recommend confirming the current e-PIN price directly on the official JAMB e-Facility portal, or asking us — we stay updated on the current pricing and can confirm the exact amount before you pay anything.
