How to Check Your WAEC or NECO Result Online (Step-by-Step)
Whether you're checking your own result or helping a family member, the process for both WAEC and NECO follows a similar pattern: get a scratch card or e-PIN, then enter your details on the official checker portal.
What You Need First
To check either result, you need a result checker PIN (also called an e-PIN or scratch card). This contains a Serial Number and a PIN, and can usually be used a limited number of times (commonly up to 5) before you need a new one. Buy PINs only from WAEC/NECO or a trusted, authorised vendor — we sell verified checker PINs at our office if you'd rather not search online.
How to Check Your WAEC Result
- Go to the official WAEC result checker portal.
- Enter your 10-digit Examination Number (your 7-digit centre number plus your 3-digit candidate number).
- Select the examination year and type (e.g. "School Candidate Result").
- Enter the Serial Number and PIN from your scratch card.
- Click Submit to view your result — you can then print or screenshot it.
Prefer SMS? Send a text in the format WAEC*ExamNumber*PIN*ExamYear (no spaces around the asterisks) to the WAEC shortcode. You'll receive your result by return message — standard SMS charges apply, and this option currently works on MTN, Glo and Airtel lines.
How to Check Your NECO Result
NECO follows the same general pattern: purchase a NECO result checker token, visit the official NECO result-checking portal, enter your registration number and token, select your exam type and year, then submit to view your result.
If Something Looks Wrong
- "Result Withheld" usually means your script is under review for suspected exam malpractice or irregularities — it doesn't automatically mean guilt, but you may need to wait for further communication or contact the exam body directly.
- PIN not working — double-check you're entering the Serial Number and PIN exactly as printed (they're easy to mix up), and confirm the card hasn't already been used its maximum number of times.
- Can't find your exam number — this is usually on your original exam registration slip, admission card, or from your school if you registered as a school candidate.
